Cody is certified by the DLNR as a Surf Instructor and by the American Red Cross for CPR/First Aid and Lifeguarding.

Nathan Wade

Nathan worked for Cody as a surf instructor in Waikiki while he attended UH Manoa. He later attended and graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law. He is now a licensed attorney for the State of Hawaii. He spends every minute he can in the ocean!

Our Students Grow as Individuals

Healthier

People don’t realize how healthy surfing is because it’s so much fun. But surfing burns major calories! It’s no wonder surfers are notoriously fit.

Happier

You’ll love the look in your child’s eyes after they accomplish what they didn’t think was possible. It’s a fact, surfers are happier. Surfing has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression, as well as stimulate positive self image.

Confident

From the outside, surfing looks impossible. Few think they can do it. We use surfing as a tool to teach students that anything is possible with enough preparation, patience, and grit.

…and as Community Members.

Social

We encourage students to support one another and bond through their shared surfing experience. Surfing is about encouragement, friendship, and proactive attitudes.

The Lesson

1. Students Are Picked Up At Home

When students have lessons (whenever you as the parent schedule them) they are picked up by their instructor at home (or wherever you as the parent designate).

2. They Go Surfing In Waikiki With Their Instructor

Students are driven to Waikiki. We may surf at other locations (such as Diamond Head) if the conditions are poor in Waikiki for any particular day.

3. We Provide Everything

We provide towels, rash guards, sunscreen, bottled water, snacks and surfboards for students. Students only need to bring their swimwear. We advise students of both genders to use boardshorts for surfing.

4. Students Surf For 1 Hour

Students will get to surf for a full hour, conditions depending.

5. Students Return Home

After surfing, students will rinse off, dry off, hydrate, and have a snack. Then students will be dropped back off at home. Parents will be notified if there are any delays.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

What happens after I buy?

After you buy you’ll receive an order confirmation email and a registration email with next steps. We’ll call you to set up a time to FaceTime you and your child so you can meet us in-person.

Can I try the program first?

We don’t offer trial periods but we do give full refunds for the first 14 days of the program. If you’re dissatisfied for any reason just contact us to receive a full refund.

Will you provide photos?

We will take complimentary photos of the students surfing but photos will be taken in the later months of the program when the students’ surfing is at its best. We will also periodically take photos of lessons and other activities.

Can I (the parent) join the surf lesson?

We don’t recommend parents attend surf lessons because it will make children nervous. However, parents may wait on the beach and observe the lesson in progress. We do NOT allow parents to join students in the water or during the land lesson.

How can I know if my child is a good swimmer?

This is a common question. Children do not need to be expert swimmers. A child is a good enough swimmer if they feel confident in water over their head and can tread water for at least 1 minute.

Where will the students be surfing?

Students will mostly be surfing in Waikiki. Occasionally conditions will warrant having the lesson at other South Shore locations.

What if the weather/conditions are bad for surfing?

On days when there is no surf or bad conditions we will provide other activities including yoga, snorkeling, and ocean photography.

How many students will be in the class?

Class size will vary between 2 and 4 students per instructor.
