With 25 years of wave riding under his belt, he’s the kind of instructor who has seen every swell, every wipeout, and every flavor of stoke the ocean can offer. His favorite break on the island is Pipeline—yes, that Pipeline—where he feels most alive threading barrels and chasing that perfect line.
These days you’ll find him paddling out on his trusty 9-foot twin-fin gun, a board as bold and unconventional as he is. What sets Dane apart in the water is something he calls “Aussie Aloha”—a laid-back, sun-soaked blend of Aussie humor and island warmth that makes every lesson feel like a surf session with an old friend. He keeps things fun, chill, and packed with good vibes, all while sneaking in some surprisingly deep surf philosophy. (He proudly identifies as a “surfer nerd,” and his passion for Philosurfy is very, very real.)
His big goal this winter? Surfing Jaws on Maui—one of the heaviest big-wave spots on the planet. But whether he’s charging giants or helping a beginner catch their very first wave, Dane brings the same energy: stoke, sincerity, and the belief that surfing should make your soul smile.
