Joey’s love for the ocean started across the country on the East Coast. Joey grew up surfing the cold Atlantic waves in Ocean City, New Jersey, and worked as a lifeguard when he was older.
Joey moved to Oʻahu in 2022 and started working for Stoke Drift shortly after he moved to the island. He loves being in the water; one of his favorite parts of teaching is spending time outdoors and sharing his love for the ocean with others. Joey enjoys teaching lessons and seeing his students catch a wave for the first time. Reviews from his students have described Joey as chill, attentive, and informative.
Joey’s favorite part of teaching lessons is when turtles make guest appearances in the water during lessons and is quick to point them out to his students. Joey’s favorite place to surf is at Kaiser’s or Bowls on Oʻahu’s south shore. He typically prefers shortboarding over longboarding, and his favorite board to ride is a Pyzel Red Tiger.
